Excited for GTA 6? Take-Two’s CEO reveals when the release date will be announced

Even before it was officially announced, GTA 6 was already one of the most highly anticipated sequels among gamers. With Rockstar confirming its release for 2025, what fans really want to know is when the new title will actually launch.
While many continue to speculate and even come up with wild theories trying to guess when the next trailer will drop, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed in an interview with Bloomberg that the release date for GTA 6 will only be announced closer to launch.
Take-Two to ramp up marketing closer to GTA 6’s release
According to the executive, the company’s strategy is to maintain anticipation for GTA 6 rather than build hype for months on end before the game’s debut. ‘The anticipation for this title may be the highest I’ve ever seen for any entertainment property,’ he said. ‘We want to keep that excitement and momentum going.’

Zelnick also pointed out that some competitors reveal their release schedules years in advance. This contrasts with Take-Two’s approach, which focuses on ramping up marketing closer to launch in order to balance fan excitement and anticipation.
“We have competitors that lay out their release schedules years in advance, but we’ve found that the best approach is to deliver marketing materials relatively close to the launch window. That way, we can build excitement on one hand, while also balancing it with unfulfilled anticipation. We don’t always get the timing exactly right, but that’s what we’re aiming for.”
The highly anticipated release of GTA 6 is generating excitement not just among gamers, but across the entire industry. As one of the most awaited titles of 2025, many publishers are reportedly considering delaying their own games to avoid competing with Rockstar’s next big hit.
According to Christopher Dring from The Game Business, at least three major companies are looking to steer clear of a direct showdown with GTA 6. So, how’s your hype level for GTA 6? Drop a comment below!
