Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI), set for release in October 2025, is already shaking up the gaming industry and not just because of the massive hype among fans.
According to insider reports, three major publishers are preparing to delay their game launches to avoid going head-to-head with what is expected to be a groundbreaking entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.
Three Industry Giants Set to Steer Clear of GTA 6!
According to Christopher Dring from The Game Business, three gaming industry giants have their eyes on GTA 6’s release date and they’re prepared to push back their own titles to avoid being overshadowed by the massive success the game is expected to bring.
Dring mentioned that, during a conversation with the head of one of the world’s biggest publishers, he was told that Rockstar Games holds such incredible influence over the market that many titles are quite literally moved to a different launch window just to avoid competing directly with GTA 6.
Similarly, one of the studio heads who spoke to the insider was very clear:
“We don’t want to be anywhere near that. We’re making multiple plans for our titles.”
At the recent Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, insider Tom Henderson revealed that some developers are simply “waiting to see what GTA 6 is going to do.” And that’s not all — two developers of live-service games have already stated that they won’t be rolling out any major updates during GTA 6’s launch window.
