An analysis of patents filed by Take-Two has revealed a series of innovations that could turn GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI) into a true revolution for the open-world genre.

Advanced Character Animation in GTA 6

With patent US 11,620,781 B1 – “System and Method for Virtual Character Locomotion,” GTA 6 promises a major shift in character movement.
Instead of using pre-programmed animations like in GTA 5, the game will use animation “building blocks” that automatically adapt to the context.
In other words, if a character is injured, they might limp, or if they’re facing strong winds, their posture will adjust dynamically—rather than relying on pre-made animations like before.
Characters of Different Sizes

Another patent, US 20250095261A1 – “Real-Time Animation Re-Targeting,” introduces a major innovation: a system that allows a single animation to adapt to different character models without the need for separate versions for each body type.
Now, characters of different sizes and shapes will be able to perform the same actions naturally. This means that whether a character is tall, short, slim, or heavyset, all will have natural movements adapted to their body.
Advanced AI for NPCs: Smart Traffic and Pedestrians

Another notable patent is US 20200338450, which introduces smart navigation for NPCs, adjusting their behavior based on real-time data such as traffic, road types, and even weather conditions.
This will allow drivers in the game to behave realistically, slowing down in the rain, avoiding obstacles, or even getting frustrated in traffic. Best of all, these NPCs can create unexpected scenarios, such as pile-ups or even road rage incidents, adding more dynamism to the streets of GTA 6.
AI-Generated Interiors

And the innovations don’t stop there. GTA 6 will feature a much larger range of explorable buildings, with interiors dynamically generated by artificial intelligence. According to rumors, up to 70% of the buildings will be accessible, which is a huge departure from GTA 5, where only a few buildings were truly explorable.
Similarly, the AI will use tag-based descriptors (such as “deteriorated motel” or “suburban house”) to create varied interiors that change over time.
New Features in GTA Online 2

GTA 6 promises to completely eliminate loading screens between activities, which have long frustrated GTA Online players, as shown in patent US 11,794,114 B2.
The new real-time transition system will allow players to move from one activity to another without interruptions or loading screens. If you’re on a mission and decide to switch to a different lobby, the entire process will be completed with a very fast loading time.
