Josef Fares Aims for GOTY with Split Fiction, but Acknowledges GTA VI as a Tough Competitor
Split Fiction, the latest cooperative game from Hazelight Studios, is now available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X, proudly holding the title of the highest-rated game of 2025 so far.
During a conversation on YouTube, Josef Fares himself mentioned that he would love to see Split Fiction take home the Game of the Year (GOTY) award—an honor he is well familiar with after It Takes Two.
However, Fares acknowledged that this year, there is a major contender that will undoubtedly compete for and possibly win the GOTY award: Grand Theft Auto VI itself.
“I would really appreciate it if we won the Game of the Year award again, but on the other hand, I’m a huge fan of GTA. I think if it gets released, it’s going to be really tough, and I want it to be released because I’m a big fan.”
Moreover, Grand Theft Auto VI could also surpass Split Fiction on Metacritic, as Rockstar Games’ titles mostly score 90+ on the site. For example, GTA IV boasts a Metascore of 98.
