GTA 6 at 60 FPS? MAYBE only on PS5 Pro, says ex-Rockstar

If you’re hoping for GTA 6 to run at 60 FPS, don’t get your hopes up too high—maybe not even the PS5 Pro can handle it.

It’s no surprise to anyone that GTA 6 is the most anticipated game of the year (and possibly of all time), so it’s only natural that the topic is trending. This time, the question “Will the game run at 60 FPS?” has resurfaced—and for good reason: a former Rockstar developer has weighed in on the matter. Check it out!

GTA 6 at 60 FPS? Maybe, just maybe, on PS5 Pro (and even that’s unlikely)

Recently, the Kiwi Talkz podcast interviewed Mike York, a former Rockstar animator with years of experience at the studio, covering various topics from his career—including his time at Rockstar Games. And, of course, there were questions and opinions about GTA 6 as well.

According to York, GTA 6 is not a game he expects to run at 60 FPS on the base PS5. Rockstar’s strategy will likely follow the same approach as previous games (except for re-releases), aiming for a stable 30 FPS—but nothing beyond that.

Well, at least on consoles. After all, York believes that once GTA 6 arrives on PC, the graphical settings will be higher than on home consoles, and we’ll finally see the game running at 60 FPS (or more).

But what about the PS5 Pro? According to Mike York, maybe—just maybe—with PSSR boosting performance, there could be a 60 FPS mode for GTA 6 on Sony’s premium console. In other words, if the software helps the hardware, there’s a chance this might be possible.

This isn’t the first time this topic has gained attention. In the past, experts like Digital Foundry have discussed this possibility, also stating that GTA 6 is unlikely to run at 60 FPS on consoles—even on the PS5 Pro, since the CPU performance boost is only around 10%, which could create a bottleneck.

GTA 6 is currently set to launch in late 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series, but there are also rumors of delays—and even potentially leaked release dates.
